Once back in the car, Max commented. âPoison would be a likely selection for people who lack the physical strength to carry out a more strenuous murder plot. Jonah Griffin falls into that category.â
âI totally agree. While he seems to have accepted his fate, that could be a ploy to cover up his angerâand involvement. Few would suspect him in his feeble condition.â
Max paused. âSo either itâs personal or someone intended Malcolmâs death to cast a negative light on Neverminex. We need to speak to Westonâ.â
Joy flipped open her laptop and typed in âPesticide Defense League.â She whistled the moment she saw the headerâblocks of images sat side-by-side: a tractor spraying a field, dead bees, dead butterflies, a cracked egg in a nest. Words splayed across the images: âSave Lives. Ban Pesticides.â Joy confirmed, âWeston has posted a list of what the group considers to be the most dangerous pesticides on the market, not just in America but worldwide. For each, the website lists their harmful effects on the human population and the environmentâlike which ones show up in the water supply or cause neurological damage to growing childrenâand the website provides contact information for each company. Thereâs also a protest email set upâfill in your email address and name, hit send, and a protest email goes out to the California senators. Another goes to the CEO of the largest retailer of pesticides.â
âIt sounds like a hit list.â
âIt is. There are links to recent blogs that cite the danger of neonic pesticides, linking them to the decline of bee populations, and thereâs one on the recent failed attempt to ban Neverminex. The Neverminex article suggests that Locust Chemical paid millions to lobbyists to help fund a study to examine the carcinogenic and environmental properties of Neverminex. Max, Weston isnât playing around. Theyâre waging war on pesticide manufacturers.â Joy closed her computer.
âThe murder of Malcolm Moore, CEO of Locust Chemical, would be a good place to start. Itâs a clear call to action. And if thatâs true, weâre looking at more murders to come.â
âBut killing Malcolm wonât kill his company.â
âNo,â said Max. âBut activists are more concerned with sending a deadly messageââWatch your back, you might next.ââ
